We are all world witnesses. This week, the list of endangered species was updated by the IUCN (the organisation that maintains this fascinating log). The monitoring process of the rarer species reminds me of those struggling writers who live under the maxim: publish or perish. If no-one spots a Po'ouli, the IUCN will file it under "critically endangered (possibly extinct)". That's enough to make me want to inspire a smile from at least one fellow person during my day. Without that nod, I could fall off - or on to - any list. The real Asian elephant is endangered. So, go stand by a willow elephant today. It's bound to get you noticed. It may even get you published. Tonight, I can't help but recall those plaintive lyrics "I've just got to get a message to you" by the Bee Gees, but perhaps you have another tune. Do tell. |
